(1) Avenue G 3 between Pyramids G I-b and G I-c. Also clearing pits in G 6000 (Dunham) and mapping G 7000 (east end) (Wheeler).

Between Pyramids G I-b and G I-c. Having reached a line between the two pyramids, about three-fourths or four-fifths of their length, we began carrying out the meter of debris left on the rock floor. Along the south side of G I-b there are three of the crude brick granaries with the floor about 50 cm above rock. In the middle adjoining there are three similar granaries of rubble. About the entrance to G I-c is the masonry wall mentioned yesterday and on the west of these is another rougher wall.

In the rock in front of the sloping corridor, there are two large deep vertical post-holes which were probably used in lowering a heavy weight (perhaps a stone sarcophagus) down the sloping passage. Ropes attached to the weight passed around these two posts or around a cross beam resting against them and made it possible to "ease" the weight down the passage. The passage measures 125 cm high by 108 cm wide sufficient to admit a stone sarcophagus of fair size.
